EcoSecurities Registers the Largest Project Under the Gold Standard

EcoSecurities, a leading company in the business of sourcing, developing, and trading carbon credits from greenhouse gas emission reduction projects, announces the registration of the Rotor Elektrik Uretim wind farm in Osmaniye, Turkey, under the Gold Standard in May 2009.Zorlu Enerji has constructed the first phase of the project, which currently has 15 turbines in place. The wind farm will become operational in the next few weeks and has an installed capacity of 37.5 MW. During the course of this year and into 2010 a further 29 wind turbines will be installed resulting in 54 wind turbines in total, with an installed capacity of 135 MW, saving around 300,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year. EUA prices claw back lost ground

EU carbon prices have lifted more than 30 per cent off their record lows sustained in mid-February, but amid an absence of firm positive signals to explain the rise there can be little confidence that the market has yet put the worst behind it.

CER market struggles under depressed prices

The prices of Certified Emissions Reductions (CERs) remain depressed below €10, although having lifted above their record lows for now. The price of benchmark Dec 09 CERs in secondary-market exchange trading ended February at €8.81 on the ECX, up €1.50 off its record low two weeks earlier. The Dec 09-Dec 12 strip was around the €9.60 according to Reuters. Read more
