EcoSecurities, a leading company in the business of sourcing, developing, and trading carbon credits from greenhouse gas emission reduction projects, announces the registration of the Rotor Elektrik Uretim wind farm in Osmaniye, Turkey, under the Gold Standard in May 2009.Zorlu Enerji has constructed the first phase of the project, which currently has 15 turbines in place. The wind farm will become operational in the next few weeks and has an installed capacity of 37.5 MW. During the course of this year and into 2010 a further 29 wind turbines will be installed resulting in 54 wind turbines in total, with an installed capacity of 135 MW, saving around 300,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year. The efforts of the American College & University Presidents’ Climate Commitment (ACUPCC) to set clear and rigorous standards for the carbon offset market will drive the market toward higher standards.

The leaders of more than 590 of America’s top colleges and universities today announced the adoption of a protocol to guide the institutions when buying offsets on carbon markets as they work toward greenhouse-gas neutrality. As the largest sector committed to carbon neutrality, the protocol adopted by the American College & University Presidents’ Climate Commitment (ACUPCC) is expected to drive the carbon market toward higher standards.

Carbon offset markets are relatively new, unregulated and often confusing. The Presidents’ Climate Commitment saw a need for clear, rigorous standards to identify high-quality offsets, which are an important adjunct to programs to reduce, avoid and eliminate greenhouse-gas emissions.  Read more
